Sports Medicine Team - Premier League!

Well my third season as part of the Notts County Sports Medicine team is well under way. Alas the change in manager towards the end of last season didn’t bring about the hoped for change in fortunes on the pitch culminating in relegation from league 1.

Despite the lack of success on the pitch it was a great season for the Sports Med Team which continues to go from strength to strength. Several members of last season’s team have now moved on to bigger and better things with new clubs. Shannon Smalling started the ball rolling by moving to Aston Villa to take over as Academy Physio and Hannah Jowitt followed shortly after when she landed her dream job as England Crickets Sports Scientist. More recently Lizzie Read has left to take over as the 1st team Sports Therapist at Mansfield Town and Tony Tompos has recently accepted a role as assistant 1st team physio at Wigan FC.

Their success in acquiring new roles is testimony to the great work Johnny Wilson (Head of Sports Med) and Rebecca (Bex) Knight (1st Team Physio) are doing. The Notts Sports Med team is rightly regarded as one of the best in the Football League and year after year John and Bex nurture young physios and sports therapist ready for a career in professional sport.

Throughout the year every member of the team, which as well as the physios and sports therapists includes; strength and conditioning coaches, orthopaedic surgeons, sports specialist doctors, a podiatrist and an osteopath, contribute by presenting evidence based research to the rest of the group. This keeps us all on our toes and abreast of the current best practice and latest research findings.
