Why are the PROMS coming to Harlequin?
To help me gauge how I’m doing professionally and to assist in identifying areas where I could improve, I will very shortly be rolling out a new Patient Reported Outcome Measure (PROM) scheme.
Run by the National Centre for Osteopathic Research (NCOR), PROMs are designed to help both individual practitioners and the profession as a whole to develop and improve.
The scheme is completely voluntary in terms of the osteopaths and the patients who choose to participate.
Willing patients are asked to complete an online questionnaire on three separate occasions. Firstly, prior to, or as close as possible to, their first treatment, secondly one week after their first treatment, and finally at six weeks post treatment.
The questionnaires are very short. The first one takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete and the two follow-up ones only 5 minutes each. They are all completed online, either via an app on your smart phone or via your PC/Laptop.
This is a purely patient led study
The research is entirely anonymous. The data collected is entered directly into a nationwide study. Once 25 questionnaires with my unique code have been completed, I will receive feedback and a comparison of my own results compared to the national average. At no point will I be made aware of those patients who have completed the questionnaires. The beauty of this study is that there is no input at all from practitioners. This is a purely patient led study.
Osteopaths, to maintain their General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) registration, are required to complete a minimum of 30 hours Continuing Professional Development (CPD) each year. One of the key benefits of this study is that the information provided can help identify valuable areas where CPD can be directed.
The study is open to all new patients and returning patients who are presenting with a new complaint. As yet the study has no end date so will hopefully run for many years to come.
